On August 30, 61-year-old Celeste Necochea was found dead around 1 p.m., approximately 12 hours after a hit-and-run crash occurred on Sea World Drive near West Mission Bay Drive. According to reports, Necochea was a passenger in one of the vehicles involved in the incident. As of now, the San Diego Police Department is still investigating the case, and no suspect is in custody. Information regarding the driver who fled the scene has not yet been disclosed.
Another tragic event occurred on September 1, when 49-year-old Curtis Van Atta Jr. from Santee passed away following a collision on Carlton Hills Boulevard. On September 4, 46-year-old Alfredo Trevino from Vista lost his life after a motorcycle accident on Highway 79 in Julian. In an unrelated incident, 38-year-old Javier Oceguera Jr. from San Diego died when his vehicle veered off I-5 at the Tocayo off-ramp and struck a tree, subsequently catching fire on August 29. Oceguera was pronounced dead at the scene.
Another fatality occurred on August 28 when 44-year-old Arturo Flores died after a pickup truck he was riding in swerved to avoid another vehicle and overturned on Highway 78 in Ramona. Flores was also pronounced dead at the scene.
On August 24, a traffic incident involving multiple vehicles resulted in the death of 62-year-old Maria Mercado Alvarez, who was a pedestrian walking along Home Avenue in San Diego. She was struck and pronounced dead at the site.
A significant accident on August 23 claimed the life of 24-year-old Miguel Mozo from Vista when his car flipped and crashed into a light pole on Melrose Drive. Mozo was declared dead at the scene.
Lastly, 43-year-old Kevin Luis died on August 20 after his pickup truck veered off the shoulder of Highway 905 in Otay Mesa and collided with a disabled transit bus. Luis was also pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
