San Diego – The city of San Diego is set to host the Fifth Annual Coastal Art Studios Tour on Saturday, September 13, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. This free event invites art enthusiasts to enjoy a self-guided tour of local studios and gardens while meeting over 30 professional artists and viewing hundreds of unique art pieces.

Participants will have the opportunity to explore the art studios and gardens of four homes located in the scenic neighborhoods of Pacific Beach and La Jolla. With 15 new artists and a new studio joining this year’s tour, the event promises a diverse showcase of artistic talent. Attendees can expect an exciting range of creations, including pottery, ceramics, jewelry, photography, and paintings, with prices ranging from $10 to $5,000.

The homes participating in the tour include the residences of Neil and Carla Murray, Zack Taylor and Dot Renshaw, Alan and Ann Chaitlin, and Leah Higgins. Murray’s Pacific Beach home, located at 1128 Loring Street, features a second-story art studio and a xeriscaped yard, serving as inspiration for contemporary portraiture. Renshaw’s residence at 1228 Beryl Street boasts an 18-foot high art studio alongside a garden adorned with flowers, ferns, and fruit trees, allowing for a rich artistic environment.

Meanwhile, the home of Alan and Ann Chaitlin at 1670 Bahia Vista in La Jolla includes a studio filled with natural materials that reflects their vibrant artistic creations. Leah Higgins’ home, which dates back to 1926, is particularly noteworthy as it is the first custom home built by famous horticulturist Kate Sessions and features a separate art studio where Higgins displays her work.

Among the participating artists, Carol Shamrock stands out for her specialty in watercolor and acrylic painting, along with her unique polymer clay jewelry. Shamrock’s artistic style involves experimenting with both earth tones and bright colors, reflecting her passion for encompassing a wide range of hues in her creations. Another featured artist, Mieko Anakawa, showcases colorful acrylic images inspired by marine animals, cacti, and succulents. With a decade of experience painting at Spanish Village in Balboa Park, Anakawa draws inspiration from her home garden and local botanic gardens, diligently weaving elements of nature into her works.

The previous year’s Coastal Art Studios Tour attracted over 1,200 attendees, many of whom engaged in discussions regarding potential commissions with artists in anticipation of the upcoming holidays. This year, with the addition of several new artists and studios, the organizers are eager to witness even greater attendance and enthusiasm.

The event not only highlights local talent but also fosters a sense of community among artists and art lovers, making it a highly anticipated occasion in San Diego’s cultural calendar.
