La Jolla, CA – The fifth annual San Diego Coastal Art Studios Tour is set to take place on Saturday, September 13, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. This free, self-guided event invites visitors to explore the personal studios and gardens of various artists in La Jolla and Pacific Beach. The tour showcases over 30 professional artists, presenting hundreds of art pieces across four distinct homes.
New to this year’s tour are 15 participating artists, along with one new studio location at the Chaitlin home in La Jolla. Two of the featured homes are in La Jolla, while the other two are situated in Pacific Beach. The event is designed to offer a diverse range of artistic expressions within a short distance from each other, facilitating free street parking for ease of access.
The tour is the brainchild of Dot Renshaw and Leah Higgins, who aimed to reveal the rich array of art and talent in the local community. Attendees can meet the artists, learn about their creative processes, and even purchase artwork, with prices ranging from $10 to $5,000. Available mediums include ceramics, jewelry, paintings, and glass sculptures, ensuring there is something for every art enthusiast.

Among the participating artists is Carol Shamrock, known for her watercolor and acrylic paintings, as well as her unique jewelry crafted from polymer clay. Mieko Anakawa is another highlighted artist, whose work features marine animals, cacti, and succulents, distinguished by vibrant colors and abstract styles.
The Chaitlin studio at 1670 Bahia Vista in La Jolla is a new addition this year, featuring materials organized by color and contemporary totem designs. Leah Higgins’ home at 1686 Los Altos Road holds historic significance as it was constructed in 1926 by renowned architect Irving Gill for horticulturist Kate Sessions. The Murrays’ home at 1128 Loring Street, built in 1941, includes a second-floor art studio that inspires Neil Murray’s contemporary portrait work set among a xeriscaped yard. Renshaw’s residence at 1228 Beryl Street is a renovated 1920s Moorish-style home, featuring an 18-foot high art studio that serves as a creative space for various artistic endeavors.
Expected Attendance and Access
Organizers anticipate that the event will attract more than 1,200 attendees, mirroring last year’s turnout. The accessibility and variety of the arts showcased aim to enhance community engagement and promote appreciation for local talent.
