San Diego is experiencing a culinary renaissance with a diverse array of new restaurant openings across the city, ranging from unique sourdough pizza and fine-dining vegan cuisine to family-friendly eateries and fast-casual health bars. Each establishment offers distinct menus catering to various dietary preferences and tastes, showcasing the city’s rich and evolving food culture.

Odie’s Pizza Co.

One of the most notable additions to San Diego’s dining scene is Odie’s Pizza Co., located just two blocks from the Oceanside Pier. Founded by Odie O’Connor, who previously worked at Gracie’s Apizza in Portland, Oregon, the restaurant features pizzas with a unique twist, utilizing a 25-year-old sourdough starter.

The dough is crafted to achieve a chewy and crispy texture, fermented for 48 hours using organic flour sourced from the Pacific Northwest. The menu includes creatively named pizzas like Dude Ranch, which features barbecue shredded chicken, ranch dressing, and cilantro, and Benny and the Jets, made with an extra virgin olive oil base, whipped burrata, and hot honey. Customers will also be pleased to find that all pizzas can be made vegan and gluten-free. O’Connor aims to expand the brand to other locations within a year, targeting Vista or Escondido for future eateries. The address is 121 North Cleveland Street, Oceanside, CA 92054.

Vulture

The fine-dining scene in San Diego welcomes Vulture, part of a newly established vegan diner named Dreamboat in University Heights. This establishment focuses on gourmet vegan dishes, offering creative selections such as Steak Diane, featuring wood-grilled lion’s mane mushroom steak, and a tableside Caesar salad accented with chickpea-based cultured Parmigiana. The drinks menu includes sophisticated options like a gimlet made with Japanese gin and a house martini with pickled accouterments and truffle caviar. Located at 4608 Park Boulevard, San Diego, CA 92116, Vulture aims to attract diners seeking upscale vegan dining.

Bianchi Pizza and Pasta

Bianchi Pizza and Pasta, located within the Bahia Resort Hotel in Mission Beach, emphasizes a family-friendly experience with its wood-fired pizzas, pasta, and charcuterie. Chef Ignazio Tagliavia leads the kitchen, delivering comforting Italian cuisine. This establishment further diversifies the dining options available in the area, located at 998 West Mission Bay Drive, San Diego, CA 92109.
