San Diego – San Diego State University (SDSU) football will begin its 2025 season with a home opener against Stony Brook, set to air on August 28 at 7:00 PM PT. Fans can catch the game on KUSI-TV through various platforms, including cable, satellite, the FOX5 KUSI Now streaming app, and YouTube TV. The matchup not only marks the beginning of the season but also the last year for SDSU in the Mountain West Conference before transitioning to the Pac-12.

This year’s roster features significant updates, with over 40 new players joining the team through recruitment and the transfer portal. The team will be under the guidance of returning and new talents, aiming to build on past successes. Notably, local linebacker Trey White, an alumnus of Eastlake High School, has been recognized as the Mountain West Preseason Defensive Player of the Year. Additionally, placekicker Gabe Plascencia has been named the Mountain West Preseason Special Teams Player of the Year.

The upcoming game will be accompanied by a special broadcast by KUSI-TV, which has been a notable television presence in San Diego since its inception in 1982. Over the years, KUSI has aired numerous local sports events, including games of the San Diego Padres and Chargers, and has produced the Emmy-winning Prep Pigskin Report. Sixteen players from the current SDSU roster have been featured on this prestigious report.

KUSI-TV, which was acquired by Nexstar in 2023, is part of a larger network comprising over 220 stations, which includes sister station KSWB/FOX5. Alongside traditional cable options, the game will also be streamed via the Mountain West Network, ensuring widespread accessibility for fans.

In the commentary booth, Steve Quis will take on the role of play-by-play announcer, while former SDSU player J.R. Tolver will provide analysis during the game. Fans attending the matchup will not only enjoy the action on the field but will also have the chance to receive complimentary mystery bags containing past promotional items.

Looking ahead, SDSU has scheduled 11 of its 12 regular-season games for television broadcasts, including all six home games at Snapdragon Stadium. Among the games not yet announced are matchups at Northern Illinois on September 27 and at Hawai‘i on November 8.

Before the season kicks off, SDSU will host its annual Fan Fest on August 14, 2025, at Snapdragon Stadium, allowing fans to engage with the team and participate in festivities. Admission is free but requires pre-claimed tickets, and parking for the event will cost $10. Gates for the Fan Fest will open at 6 PM PT.

For those looking to catch more of the season, season tickets for the 2025 SDSU football campaign start at $200. Various benefits and discounts are available for season-ticket holders, with fans also having the option to create their own three-game mini-plan for select home games. Single-game tickets are also being sold, starting at $23, which includes all associated fees.

A highlight of SDSU’s roster includes Trey White’s accolades. Besides being named Mountain West Preseason Defensive Player of the Year, White appears on several preseason watch lists, including the Chuck Bednarik Award and the Bronko Nagurski Trophy. Last season, he led the Mountain West Conference and ranked fifth across the FBS with an impressive total of 12.5 sacks. The Bednarik Award honors the top college football defensive player, with finalists set to be announced later in the season.

As anticipation builds for their home opener against Stony Brook, SDSU’s scrimmage on August 14 will serve as a preview event, offering a glimpse of the team’s strengths and strategies before the official kickoff.
