Rising Sexual Assault Cases in San Diego County Prompt Concern

News Summary

San Diego County is experiencing an alarming increase in sexual assault incidents, including multiple arrests. Recent cases involve a female jogger’s attack and assaults on elderly and teenage victims. The Sheriff’s Office urges community vigilance and support in combating sexual violence as investigations progress.

San Diego County is facing a troubling rise in sexual assault cases, including multiple incidents that have led to several arrests. The San Diego County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a sexual battery incident that took place on July 30 in Rancho San Diego, where a 24-year-old woman was attacked while she was jogging.

The incident, which occurred around 8:30 p.m. on Hilton Head Road near Emerald Point Lane, involved a male suspect who is described as a White male in his mid-20s. This individual is roughly 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighs approximately 150 pounds, and has short, shaggy medium brown hair. During the attack, he was seen wearing a dark-colored shirt and black flip-flop sandals. Reports indicate that the suspect restrained the woman by placing his left arm around her neck and chest before sexually battering her. Fortunately, the victim was able to scream, which led to her escape. Authorities are encouraging anyone with information regarding this incident to contact the Sexual Assault Unit at 858-285-6112 or the after-hours number at 858-868-3200.

In a separate case, 52-year-old Tony Choi was arrested on Halloween morning in Solana Beach for charges of elder abuse and sexual assault. It is alleged that Choi approached a 75-year-old woman outside her home under the guise of offering a dog-washing service before assaulting her inside her residence. The attack was interrupted by a caregiver, which prompted Choi to flee the scene; however, he was apprehended later that night. Choi has a history of law enforcement interactions, including previous arrests for driving under the influence of drugs. He is currently out on $100,000 bail and has a court arraignment scheduled for November 8, 2024.

Additionally, four men—David Alvarado, 41; Eusebio Aguilera, 35; Aldo Alfonso Cebrian Hernandez, 31; and Samuel Rodriguez Rodriguez, 44—have been charged in connection with drugging and sexually assaulting three teenage girls aged 16 and 17 in San Marcos. The assaults occurred in the 200 block of Woodland Parkway, where the victims were found unconscious. The suspects face various charges, including arranging a meeting with a minor for lewd purposes and oral copulation on someone under 18 years of age.

Another significant incident involves 18-year-old Reyvon Tafare English, who surrendered to authorities after being suspected of raping a 15-year-old girl at Mount Miguel High School on April 11. Following the victim’s report to school staff, English was booked on charges of kidnapping, false imprisonment, and multiple sexual assault offenses. He is currently held at San Diego Central Jail without bail, with an arraignment scheduled for the upcoming Monday.

These recent incidents have prompted heightened awareness and concern regarding safety in the community. As local authorities investigate these cases, they are urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity. The swift action taken against these individuals reflects ongoing efforts to address and combat sexual violence in San Diego County.

This series of troubling incidents serves as a reminder of the importance of community involvement and vigilance. The San Diego County Sheriff’s Office is committed to ensuring the safety of all residents and continues to investigate these incidents thoroughly.
