Five people lost their lives in a tragic three-vehicle crash that occurred in Poway around 12:30 PM on Friday, July 18. The incident happened on State Route 67, just north of Iron Mountain Drive, east of Poway, when a Chevy Silverado, reportedly traveling at high speed, veered into oncoming traffic.
The head-on collision involved the Silverado and a white Honda Civic, which was heading south on SR-67 with one individual inside. Following the initial impact, a Toyota Tacoma carrying three passengers struck the Honda Civic. The force of the crash caused one vehicle to plunge down a ravine and ignited a small brush fire along the highway, which firefighters quickly managed to extinguish.
Unfortunately, all five individuals in the vehicles died at the scene. Among the victims were Marcial Rivera, aged 59, and his 32-year-old son, Emmanuel Rivera, both confirmed by family members. Roberto Martinez Oros, aged 68, has also been identified as one of the deceased. The identities of the remaining two victims have not yet been disclosed by authorities.
The San Diego County Sheriff’s Office is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident, particularly looking into the causes of the Silverado’s erratic behavior before the crash. Among the evidence being reviewed are video recordings from a passing Tesla that captured the incident.
In the wake of this event, the Rivera family has initiated a GoFundMe campaign and is organizing a fundraiser set for Sunday to support their community and honor their loved ones.

Just twelve hours after this crash, another fatal accident was reported in the same area. Locals have noted a history of deadly accidents on this stretch of highway, attributing this to common issues like speeding and distracted driving.

These investments have included adding plastic barriers and high-friction surface treatments aimed at improving road safety.
