Former San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer has been appointed as the new president and CEO of the Lincoln Club Business League. With a focus on job creation and economic growth, he aims to enhance the club’s influence in the San Diego business community. Former San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer has been appointed as the new president and CEO of the Lincoln Club Business League, a prominent business and political advocacy group in San Diego. The Lincoln Club is dedicated to promoting pro-jobs policies, advocating for working families, enhancing housing options, and supporting the tourism economy in San Diego. Faulconer has expressed the belief that the Lincoln Club serves as “the nexus between business and politics,” and is committed to making the environment more favorable for local businesses to expand and hire.
Identifying San Diego as being at a critical “crossroads,” Faulconer articulated that multiple proposals currently threaten job opportunities in the city. He stressed the necessity for the Lincoln Club to become more assertive in advocating for business interests, particularly in opposing regulations, taxes, and wage mandates perceived as obstacles to job growth.
During his tenure as mayor from 2014 to 2020, Faulconer tackled significant issues such as homelessness and a hepatitis A outbreak, while also focusing on investing in public safety and neighborhood services. Though he built relationships across party lines, his mayoral term faced criticism, notably stemming from the controversial 101 Ash St. deal.
Faulconer’s objectives for the Lincoln Club include supporting small businesses and ensuring their voices are heard at all levels of government. The club seeks to refresh its membership and attract new business leaders, as its membership has stagnated around 400 members for several years. Membership contributions to the Lincoln Club range from $750 to $10,000 per year, and the organization will continue to engage in advocacy, networking, campaign endorsements, and fundraising.
Faulconer succeeds Victor Lopez, who resigned as the club’s executive director in March 2023 before Faulconer’s appointment. Following his departure from the mayor’s office, Faulconer attempted to maintain a presence in public service by running for governor and for a seat on the County Board of Supervisors; however, he withdrew from both races.
The leadership of Faulconer is anticipated to invigorate San Diego’s business advocacy efforts, with a strong emphasis on job creation and economic opportunities for all.
