The incident occurred at approximately 5:45 PM on Bancroft Drive near the 9100 block of Edgewood Drive. Bystanders reported seeing the Doberman being dragged behind an older model black Jeep Cherokee, traveling at an estimated speed of 30 miles per hour. Witness accounts indicated that the driver appeared indifferent to the situation, laughing as attempts were made by onlookers to intervene. The dog reportedly flipped over multiple times during the dragging, which continued for several minutes before it tragically concluded with Ralph being euthanized due to severe injuries before Animal Control officers arrived on the scene.
Joseph Holland, the dog’s owner who is currently experiencing homelessness, contacted County Animal Services after becoming aware of the incident through news coverage. In his statement, Holland confessed to tying the dog to the back of his truck while using the restroom, later admitting he forgot about the dog and unknowingly dragged it when he drove away.
