Chula Vista, CA – A 22-year-old man, Ulysses Jimenez of San Diego, has been charged with murder following a harrowing incident on Interstate 805 that resulted in the death of a motorcyclist. The collision, which took place around 8 p.m. on Monday, involved Jimenez intentionally ramming his vehicle into the motorcycle ridden by 53-year-old Jorge Uribe, also from Chula Vista.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that Jimenez, driving a 2023 Tesla Model Y, struck Uribe’s 2025 BMW motorcycle while traveling in the carpool lane. The impact caused Uribe to be thrown onto the roadway, and he succumbed to his injuries at the scene, as confirmed by the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The incident escalated further when Jimenez’s vehicle, after the initial collision, collided with a 2012 Ram 1500 pickup truck that was carrying six passengers. Fortunately, the occupants of the Ram sustained minor to moderately serious injuries and were subsequently transported to nearby hospitals for medical care.
According to eyewitness accounts, Jimenez fled the scene on foot after the crash but was apprehended shortly after by law enforcement officials nearby. Ongoing investigations by the CHP are scrutinizing the circumstances surrounding the crash, including the possibility of drug influence and whether the incident was fueled by road rage.
Jimenez has not only been charged with murder but also faces a misdemeanor hit-and-run charge related to the collision with the Ram 1500. He was scheduled for a court hearing to address formal murder charges on Thursday, but the proceeding was delayed when he refused to leave his cell, rescheduling it for the following Monday.
Tragically, Jorge Uribe was returning from a motorcycle rally in Plain, Washington, at the time of the incident. Loved ones have gathered to remember him, sharing poignant memories and expressing their profound grief over his untimely passing. Uribe was celebrated as a devoted family man, known for his generosity and caring nature. He is survived by a wife and two children, who have been deeply affected by the sudden loss.
As more details emerge from the ongoing investigation, the CHP is dedicated to uncovering the full circumstances of the incident, focusing not only on Jimenez’s alleged actions but also examining the overall context of road safety in the region. This case highlights the serious consequences of reckless driving and the impact it can have on families and communities.
The investigation remains active, with law enforcement urging any witnesses who have not yet come forward to share their accounts to assist in piecing together the events that transpired on that fateful evening.
