The San Diego County Fair returns with a vibrant ‘Summer Pet-tacular’ theme highlighting pets and pet ownership. Running from June 11 to July 6 at the Del Mar Fairgrounds, it features a partnership with the San Diego Humane Society, promoting animal welfare and adoptions. Visitors can enjoy rides, live music, and a spectacular fireworks display on July 4. Various cultural festivals, pet competitions, and educational talks on responsible pet ownership are also part of the fair’s attractions, making it a must-visit for families and pet lovers.
Del Mar, California – The San Diego County Fair officially kicks off on June 11 and runs through July 6, featuring a vibrant “Summer Pet-tacular” theme that focuses on pets and pet ownership. The event takes place at the Del Mar Fairgrounds, located at 2260 Jimmy Durante Blvd., and opens from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Wednesdays through Sundays.
This year’s fair highlights a special partnership with the San Diego Humane Society, promoting animal welfare and facilitating pet adoptions. Attendees can look forward to the “Pets Rock: Live on Tour” exhibit, which showcases adoptable animals and offers educational talks aimed at fostering responsible pet ownership.
The fair promises a plethora of activities, including thrilling rides, varied entertainment, diverse exhibits, mouth-watering food, and live music. A spectacular fireworks display will cap off the Independence Day celebration on July 4, scheduled for 9 p.m.
General on-site parking is available for $16 if purchased online in advance, or $20 at the gate. Free parking is offered at Canyon Crest Academy, while Del Mar Horsepark provides paid parking at a cost of $10, along with free shuttle services to the fairgrounds.
Admission prices range from $13 to $25 for individuals aged six and older. The fair anticipates drawing nearly 1 million attendees throughout its duration, significantly benefiting the local economy with an estimated contribution of over $230 million in 2024.
The fair’s opening ceremony will feature important remarks from officials with the 22nd District Agricultural Association. Attendees will also enjoy a performance by the Marine Corps Marching Band, highlighting the festive atmosphere.
The lineup for the Toyota Summer Concert Series includes 20 musical acts performing at the Corona Grandstand Stage, the fair’s largest venue. Furthermore, visitors can take advantage of free entertainment each night on the Chevrolet Paddock Stage, featuring local bands and various tribute acts.
This year, the fair will showcase six unique cultural festivals, each celebrating different cultural heritages, offering something for everyone attending. Carnival games will be available at a discounted price during “Game-On Fridays,” a special offer that includes free admission for children aged 12 and under on those days.
New attractions will be available this year, including a breathtaking 177-foot-tall ride located in the Kids Zone area, ensuring thrilling experiences for younger fairgoers. Moreover, there will be various pet-centric events throughout the fair, including a Pooch Fun Run on July 5, allowing dog owners to enjoy a lively morning alongside their pets.
Aside from the larger events, the fair will host a range of pet-related activities, including puppy yoga sessions, canine competitions, and educational talks addressing animal care and behavior. Additionally, the San Diego Humane Society will reinforce its commitment to promoting responsible pet ownership and wildlife coexistence through various interactions and informative sessions.
Fair attendees can also participate in engaging contests, such as the Pet Portrait Contest and the Pet People Costume Contest, aimed to entertain while promoting the importance of pet adoption and care. With its diverse range of activities and focus on community engagement, the San Diego County Fair is set to be a summer highlight for families and pet lovers alike.
