The tradition of celebrating this national holiday began in Philadelphia in 1777 and became more widespread after the War of 1812. Today, Fourth of July celebrations across the country typically include backyard barbeques, community parades, and spectacular nighttime firework displays.
San Diego International Airport is preparing for an influx of travelers, with nearly 700,000 passengers expected from June 29 to July 7. Daily travel is forecasted to reach approximately 80,000, with peak days seeing numbers rise to 85,000 passengers. The busiest travel days are likely to be the Sundays and Mondays immediately surrounding the holiday.
The Fourth of July fireworks display in Chula Vista is scheduled to kick off at 9 p.m., accompanied by a bilingual soundtrack on Amor 102.9. Other events include the Coronado Independence Day Parade, which will run from 10 a.m. to noon on July 4, showcasing community spirit and local pride.

Belmont Park will celebrate its centennial with special activities throughout the day on July 4. The signature Big Bay Boom fireworks show will be broadcast live from four barges situated across San Diego Bay, also commencing at 9 p.m.
