San Diego's summer festival atmosphere with live music and food stalls
San Diego is gearing up for a lively weekend as it welcomes summer with a diverse lineup of events. From the California Wine Festival to the Temecula Valley Balloon & Wine Festival, and performances by the Mainly Mozart All-Star Orchestra, there’s something for everyone. Additional highlights include a beach festival by Switchfoot, a series of events at the Black Arts Festival, and an evening concert by Wu-Tang Clan. Art lovers can enjoy the Carlsbad Art in the Village event, while culinary enthusiasts look forward to the Taste of Little Italy. The weekend promises excitement and enjoyment for all.
The California Wine Festival kicks off at 6:30 p.m. on Friday at the Park Hyatt Aviara Resort Golf Club & Spa in Carlsbad. This event features a champagne welcome, wine tastings, gourmet appetizers, and live music. Admission starts at $78, and there are full two-day passes available for wine enthusiasts who wish to indulge over the weekend.
Simultaneously, the Temecula Valley Balloon & Wine Festival begins on Friday, running through Sunday. Opening at noon, the festival offers attendees barbecues, live music, and stunning hot air balloon rides. Passes for the festival start at $99, and camping options are also available for those looking to fully immerse themselves in the festivities.
Meanwhile, the Mainly Mozart All-Star Orchestra performances continue with shows scheduled on Friday and Saturday. Friday’s concert at the Baker-Baum Concert Hall will feature compositions by Beethoven, Mozart, and Strauss, while Saturday’s performance at the UCSD Epstein Family Amphitheater will showcase pieces by Elgar, Mozart, and Saint-Saëns. Admission prices vary, starting at $68 for Friday’s concert and $26 for Saturday’s event, with both concerts beginning at 7 p.m.
On Saturday, the Switchfoot BRO-AM Foundation will host its annual Beach Fest at Moonlight Beach in Encinitas starting at 7 a.m. This family-friendly event will feature surf contests, live music, and various vendors, while also benefiting local charities, including Feeding San Diego and Rady Children’s Hospital.
The Black Arts Festival, which began on Juneteenth, continues its celebrations with a series of events throughout the weekend at the Diversionary Theatre in University Heights. Highlights include a new play series on Friday, a community showcase on Saturday, and a Gospel Brunch finale scheduled for Sunday at 11 a.m. Individual tickets for the festival are priced at $25, while a full pass can be purchased for $80.
Saturday will also see the legendary Wu-Tang Clan performing at Pechanga Arena at 8 p.m. as part of their farewell tour, “Wu-Tang Forever: The Final Chamber Tour.” Tickets for this highly anticipated concert start at $67, and the opening act will feature Run the Jewels.
On Sunday, the Carlsbad Art in the Village event will take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., showcasing the work of over 150 local artists, along with live music and art demonstrations. Attendees can enjoy various forms of artistic expression, including glass blowing and sculpting, as well as a dedicated kids’ art pavilion.
For those who love culinary experiences, the Taste of Little Italy event will offer a food tour of local restaurants from Tuesday to Wednesday of next week. Additionally, the ongoing San Diego County Fair at the Del Mar Fairgrounds runs until July 6, featuring rides, live music, and various culinary attractions.
The weekend promises to be vibrant and engaging, with various performances and concerts scheduled throughout the area, including Baby Bash at SeaWorld and the San Diego Smooth Jazz Festival.
