The Gator By The Bay festival is returning to San Diego, promising four days packed with over 100 musical acts celebrating Louisiana culture. Attendees can expect a blend of music genres, delicious Louisiana cuisine, and festival enhancements to enhance the experience. Celebrating its 21st anniversary, this vibrant event is known for its festive atmosphere and rich roots in American music. Tickets will be available for single-day or full festival access.
The Gator By The Bay festival is set to return to San Diego from May 8 to May 11, 2025. This vibrant celebration of Louisiana music and culture will be held at Spanish Landing Park, a picturesque location along San Diego’s Bayfront near the airport.
Featuring over 100 musical acts across seven stages over four days, the festival promises an exciting lineup for attendees. Notable performers include Louisiana Music Hall of Famers Nathan Williams and The Zydeco Cha Chas, Grammy Award winners Steve Riley and The Mamou Playboys, and Tommy Castro and The Painkillers, who recently received the 2025 Blues Music Award for Blues Rock Artist of the Year.
This year, Kid Francescoli, known for their electro-pop roots in Marseille, France, will perform in San Diego for the first time, showcasing tracks from their latest album, Sunset Blue. Additionally, Orchestral Manoeuvres In the Dark (OMD), a significant player in the synth-pop genre, will also join the lineup with their latest album Bauhaus Staircase.
The festival will not only focus on music but also offer a true taste of Louisiana. Approximately 10,000 pounds of crawfish will be transported from Louisiana to enhance the culinary experience. A “Taste of Louisiana” section will feature cooking demonstrations and a marketplace offering authentic Southern cuisine.
Food enthusiasts can look forward to a variety of dishes, including po’ boy sandwiches, smoked hot links, seafood and chicken gumbo, gator on a stick, hush puppies, fried catfish, bread pudding, and pecan pie.
Organizers have announced several enhancements to improve the festival experience, including an expanded parade route, optimized stage placements for better visibility, and a relocated VIP Patron Area along the scenic Bayfront walkway. These improvements aim to create a more enjoyable atmosphere for the expected crowd.
Gator By The Bay is celebrating its 21st anniversary this year, showcasing a rich variety of American roots music styles such as Western swing, rockabilly, zydeco, blues, rock, and Latin music. A centennial tribute will honor zydeco legend Clifton Chenier, featuring his son CJ Chenier alongside special guests Sonny Landreth and Marcia Ball.
The festival marketing emphasizes the spirit of Louisiana, branding itself as “Mardi Gras in May.” It aims to bring together people from different backgrounds to appreciate the lively culture and music of the Pelican State in an engaging and festive environment.
Tickets for the Gator By The Bay festival will be available for both single-day access and full festival passes, allowing attendees flexibility in participating in this dynamic event.
As anticipation builds for this year’s festival, attendees can look forward to a weekend of entertainment, flavor, and cultural immersion that promises to highlight the best of Louisiana’s rich traditions right in the heart of San Diego.
