News Summary

San Diego State’s football team will feature several nationally televised games in the upcoming season, as it prepares to transition to the Pac-12 Conference. The schedule includes prime-time matchups against notable teams and aims to boost fan engagement. Season tickets are also available, reflecting the program’s commitment to enhancing the overall experience for its supporters. With the impending move to the Pac-12, SDSU is poised for significant growth in its athletic program while focusing on future initiatives for student-athletes.

San Diego, CA – The San Diego State (SDSU) football team will feature nine nationally televised games during its 2025 regular season, a move that heralds a significant development for the program as it prepares for its upcoming transition to the Pac-12 Conference in 2026. The announcement was made by the Mountain West Conference, outlining an exciting schedule for fans and players alike.

The Aztecs are set to debut on The CW on September 6, 2025, with a matchup against Washington State at 7:15 p.m. PT. Additional highlighted games include a contest against California on September 20 at 7:30 p.m. PT, and a series of prime-time matchups against Colorado State, Nevada, Wyoming, and Boise State throughout the season, all televised on CBS Sports Network.

Specific game times also reflect a commitment to maximizing viewer engagement, with the Aztecs facing Colorado State on October 3 and Nevada on October 11, both scheduled for 7:30 p.m. PT. The November schedule showcases two more critical games: a home game against Wyoming on November 1 at 4 p.m. PT and a highly anticipated face-off against Boise State on November 15, also at 7:30 p.m. PT.

In addition, SDSU is confirmed to play two games on FOX networks, including a matchup at Fresno State on October 25, and a home game against San Jose State on November 22, with specific kickoff times yet to be announced. A total of three additional games – against Stony Brook, Northern Illinois, and Hawai’i – remain unconfirmed for national broadcast, as their start times will be revealed in due course.

The season concludes with the Mountain West Championship Game on December 5, 2025, to be hosted by the team with the best record in conference play, and also aired on FOX. This match will mark an essential moment for the Aztecs, showcasing their performance in a high-stakes environment.

Hoping to support fans and enhance attendance, SDSU has set season tickets starting at $200. This price includes a base fee of $175 and a $25 Aztec Club Membership fee. Season ticket holders will also enjoy various benefits such as interest-free payment plans, merchandise discounts, food and beverage deals, discounted parking, and more.

Transition to Pac-12 Conference

This transformative period for SDSU is marked by its planned switch to the Pac-12 Conference on July 1, 2026, positioning the Aztecs alongside other Mountain West teams such as Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State, and Utah State. Athletic director John David Wicker has expressed optimism about the transition, which is expected to enhance the university’s financial growth and strengthen partnerships within collegiate athletics.

The need for the Pac-12 to sustain a minimum of eight teams by 2026 underscores the importance of this transition for maintaining its status as a legitimate NCAA conference. SDSU, which has been a founding member of the Mountain West since its inception in 1998, has consistently proven itself competitive in the league. The leadership at SDSU views this move as an opportunity to attract top talent and compete at higher levels within collegiate football.

NIL Changes and New Initiatives

In response to recent NCAA changes that allow institutions to directly compensate athletes for their name, image, and likeness (NIL), SDSU has initiated the Student-Athlete Recruitment and Retention Fund. This fund aims to support the university’s competitiveness moving into the Pac-12 by addressing financial needs and enhancing the overall experience of its student-athletes. Contributions to this fund are tax-deductible, enabling better funding opportunities for athletes as the landscape of college athletics continues to evolve.

Overall, the formidable television schedule, strategic transition to the Pac-12, and new financial initiatives signal a vibrant future for San Diego State football, as it gears up for what promises to be an unprecedented era in its athletic history.
