The new Uniqlo store interior at Fashion Valley mall set to open soon.
Uniqlo is set to open its second store in San Diego at Fashion Valley mall later this year. The new location, which follows the success of its first store, will offer a range of affordable minimalist clothing. Uniqlo is actively hiring for various positions ahead of the opening as part of its broader expansion strategy in the U.S., aiming for 25 new stores next year. This move aligns with retail trends at Fashion Valley mall as it adapts to changing consumer preferences.
San Diego is set to welcome a second Uniqlo store later this year, a significant addition to the fast-fashion retailer’s presence in the city. The new location will be situated on the second floor of Fashion Valley mall, in close proximity to Bloomingdale’s. While the exact opening date has not yet been disclosed by a spokesperson from the mall, the announcement has created a notable buzz among local shoppers.
Uniqlo’s first store in San Diego, which opened last fall at Westfield UTC, experienced great success, drawing in over 1,000 customers on its opening day. The retailer has become well-known for offering a range of affordable, minimalist clothing that has appealed to many in the San Diego area.
In anticipation of the new store opening, Uniqlo is actively hiring for various positions in San Diego. The openings include part-time retail sales roles starting at $17 an hour, visual merchandising positions ranging from $17 to $18 an hour, and a full-time loss prevention supervisor role that offers $28 an hour. Employees will receive several benefits, including a store discount, a flexible spending account, and matching contributions to a 401(k) plan.
The creation of this new store aligns with Uniqlo’s ambitious expansion strategy in the United States, with plans to open 25 additional stores over the next year. If successful, this expansion will increase Uniqlo’s total store count in North America to over 100. Market analysts view the U.S. and Canadian retail environments as having high potential for growth, particularly in key states such as New York, California, and Texas, which ranked as the top states for Uniqlo’s e-commerce sales in 2024.
Founded in the mid-20th century as a textile manufacturer, Uniqlo has evolved significantly, making its mark globally since opening its first U.S. store in 2005. The company is focused on cultivating an entrepreneurial mindset among its store managers and sales personnel, which is part of its strategy to enhance the customer experience.
Uniqlo’s expansion comes at a time when Fashion Valley mall itself is undergoing changes, including the recent openings of San Diego County’s first Rag & Bone boutique and a new Journeys shoe and accessories store. Additionally, the mall is expecting a new Hurley location to open on Memorial Day Weekend. These changes reflect a broader trend in retail as malls adapt to evolving consumer preferences and enhance their shopping experiences.
As customers await the opening of the new Uniqlo store at Fashion Valley, the retailer is positioning itself to further engage with San Diego’s vibrant fashion market, providing an assortment of stylish and affordable clothing options to meet the demands of local shoppers.
