In tandem with the closures, Walmart is investing heavily in growth by opening new locations and remodeling existing ones. A new Walmart Supercenter is scheduled to debut in Eastvale, Riverside County, as part of a broader initiative that involves the opening of 150 new stores across the United States over the next five years. The Eastvale Supercenter is expected to offer upgraded services and a modern layout, designed to enhance customer experience.

In addition to the new Supercenter, 57 Walmart stores in California are slated for major remodels in 2025, part of the company’s “Store of the Future” initiative. These remodels aim to significantly enhance store features including new signage and displays, as well as an expanded selection of products across various departments such as grocery, apparel, home, and baby items.

The remodeling plans include improvements to pharmacy areas, which will feature wider aisles, new private screening rooms, and enhanced privacy checkout areas. Some locations, particularly those in the Los Angeles area, are confirmed for these significant updates. In total, Walmart has invested over $800 million in store enhancements throughout California in the past five years, underscoring its commitment to upgrading its infrastructure.

As part of the remodeling efforts, customers can also expect expanded online pickup and delivery options, designed to cater to changing shopping preferences and habits. This retail strategy reflects Walmart’s focus on placing the right stores in appropriate locations rather than saturating neighborhoods with multiple establishments.

Walmart operates a robust network within California, encompassing 303 retail locations and 21 supply chain facilities, employing over 104,500 associates throughout the state. On a national scale, the company boasts a total of 4,605 retail and 600 Sam’s Club locations, collectively employing approximately 1.6 million associates across the country.

This strategic redirection aligns with Walmart’s ongoing efforts to streamline operations while expanding its footprint in key markets. As the company navigates these changes, it remains focused on adapting to the evolving needs of its customers and ensuring long-term business viability.
