San Diego residents are being encouraged to check if they are due any portion of $916,418 in unclaimed funds before the June 16, 2025 deadline. This announcement comes from the city’s recent report on unclaimed monies, which identified over 800 individuals and businesses that could be entitled to these amounts.

The unclaimed funds consist of refund or vendor payment checks, which have been marked unclaimed due to reasons such as address changes or checks that were not cashed within six months of issuance. The amounts owed vary significantly, ranging from as little as $1 to as much as $28,000.

In the previous year, the city managed to return approximately $888,059 in unclaimed funds to 118 recipients, which amounted to only 53% of the total unclaimed funds reported. The average claim amount during that period was $6,041, highlighting the potential for substantial sums to still be claimed by residents.

Noteworthy claims identified in the report include amounts as small as $1 owed to an individual named Ellis Calivornia Jones III, and a significant sum of $27,987.84 due to EDCO Disposal Corp. Other notable claims include payments of $77.30 owed to Daniel Toneck and $317 owed to Ace Parking Management. An additional $9,000 is owed to an individual or entity simply referred to as D.

The city has set a firm deadline for residents to claim any owed funds from checks that were issued before April 1, 2024. Anyone not making a claim by June 16, 2025, will find that the unclaimed funds will be transferred into the city’s General Fund effective July 1, 2025.

Residents can easily access the unclaimed monies report through a 23-page spreadsheet that is available online. To find potential claims, individuals are advised to use the CTRL-F command to search for their name or business within the database. Claims can be filed online directly or through a printed form that can be downloaded from the city’s website.

To ensure claims are processed efficiently, completed paperwork should be mailed to the City of San Diego, Department of Finance, Unclaimed Monies Claim Processing. Once claims are verified, checks are expected to be issued within three to four weeks.

For any questions regarding the process or for further assistance, residents are encouraged to reach out via email at unclaimedmonies@sandiego.gov or by calling 619-236-6310.

This initiative represents a significant opportunity for many in the San Diego area to reclaim funds that they might not be aware they were entitled to. With an approaching deadline, residents are urged to act quickly to verify their claims and ensure they receive any owed money.
