The company is currently in the fundraising stage and aims to promote “human health optimization” by utilizing wearable technology and advanced diagnostic methods.
Haemanthus has recently secured its first patent for a compact device that employs laser technology to analyze samples of blood, saliva, or urine. This innovative technology could potentially revolutionize the way health assessments are conducted. The startup is named after the blood lily, also known as Haemanthus, further emphasizing its focus on health and vitality.
Evans, who has reportedly raised millions of dollars from various investors for Haemanthus, stresses that this new venture will learn from the failures associated with Theranos. Importantly, Elizabeth Holmes is not involved with Haemanthus, allowing the startup to forge its unique identity in the health technology space. In the wake of her legal troubles, including a conviction for fraud in 2022, this separation is crucial for establishing credibility.
Holmes was sentenced to over 11 years in prison for defrauding both investors and patients regarding Theranos’ purported blood testing technology, which was ultimately found to be ineffective. Alongside her prison sentence, she was ordered to repay over $450 million to investors. Despite her legal challenges, Holmes maintains her innocence and is currently incarcerated at Federal Prison Camp Bryan in Texas, with a potential release date in April 2032 due to good behavior.
