San Diego – City Ballet San Diego is set to launch its 32nd season, featuring an exciting array of classic and contemporary productions that will take place in venues across San Diego and Escondido. The season promises to deliver a diverse selection of ballets curated by various choreographers under the direction of artistic director Steven Wistrich and associate artistic director Ariana Gonzalez.

This upcoming season includes a special charity fundraising event, “En Pointe for Ava,” designed to benefit children affected by pediatric brain cancer. The event will showcase performances from professional dancers affiliated with City Ballet San Diego along with aspiring dancers from the Lynch Dance Institute. The nonprofit organization, En Pointe for Ava, aims to provide financial support to families who are facing the challenges associated with life-threatening brain cancer.

The main season will feature a range of thrilling productions. The comedic classic “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” will enchant audiences, while Geoffrey Gonzalez’s premiere of the contemporary piece “Summer Wind” is anticipated. In November, viewers can look forward to a fresh rendition of “Dracula” along with the San Diego premiere of the contemporary ballet “Ecliptic.” The company will also transform the festive season with its December production of “The Nutcracker,” which expands this year to six performances, all accompanied by the City Ballet Orchestra under renowned conductor John Nettles.

March will bring the beautiful “Swan Lake, Act II,” along with the captivating “Black Swan Pas de Deux” and the world premiere of “The Seasons.” The season will culminate in May with a performance of “Carmen,” set to the powerful music of Georges Bizet, paired with Balanchine’s elegant “Divertimento No. 15.”

Performances are set to take place at the Balboa Theatre in downtown San Diego and the California Center for the Arts in Escondido. Tickets are available for purchase ranging from $15 to $169.90, with options for flexible ballet packages and discounts for subscription purchases.

City Ballet San Diego focuses on presenting storytelling ballets aimed at expanding their audience engagement in both downtown San Diego and North County. Each performance will also include a complimentary pre-performance lecture, offered 45 minutes prior to the show, to enhance viewer understanding and appreciation of the pieces performed.

Additionally, the professional company Malashock Dance will be featured in six unique short-form works, showcasing the diverse age, ethnicity, and cultures that make up San Diego’s rich community.

Tickets for all productions can be obtained through City Ballet’s Box Office or their official website. The upcoming season stands poised to entertain and inspire audiences across the region with a mix of established classics and innovative new work.
